FIELD GUIDE / OCT 05, 2026THE LOCAL SCREENING ROOM

Press play.
Keep it local.

A practical note on your Mac's KinoPub setup.

Your current defaults

The locally customized kinopub command prefers 2160p (4K), chooses English audio and subtitles independently, and prefers Russian if English is missing for an episode. If 4K is unavailable, the existing selector chooses the closest available resolution.

The command

kinopub -o "$HOME/Movies/KinoPub" https://kino.watch/item/view/21996

$HOME/Movies/KinoPub is a path on your Mac. The website cannot read that folder or execute this command.

Want to choose manually?

kinopub -i https://kino.watch/item/view/21996

-i enables the manual quality, audio and subtitle pickers. Omit it for automatic defaults. Explicit -q, --audio, --subs and -f selections override the local defaults.

The fine print

  • If neither English nor Russian exists, upstream selection can retain another available track. No subtitle track means no subtitles.
  • Pre-muxed podcast/feed files cannot guarantee language filtering.
  • --subs-only retains upstream strict-language behavior.
  • This is a local code customization, not an upstream config option. Updates can overwrite it.
  • Your encrypted login stays on your Mac. No cookies, tokens or credentials are published here.

Installation receipts

Official Apple Silicon release v0.9.1 was checksum-verified. A separate locally built binary adds the defaults; domain, HLS, media-resolver and CLI tests passed. The original release binary is retained.
